Kirtland Local Schools
Renewal Operating Levy on May 2
On May 2, the Kirtland Local School District will ask voters to approve Issue 1, a 7.07-mill, five-year renewal operating levy to avoid an operating deficit.
Issue 1, which was first approved in 2012, will continue to generate $2.28 million annually for general operating expenses – about 16 percent of the Kirtland Local Schools’ total budget. Issue 1 will allow the district to maintain its current level of academic excellence for its 1,170 students without raising taxes.
The Kirtland Board of Education has held annual expense growth to an average 1.55 percent, compared to the statewide average of 3 percent to 4 percent, through reductions, shared services and alternative revenue sources. Issue 1 will allow the Kirtland Local Schools to maintain its excellent programming into the future.
