Annual KHS Volleyball Tournament to Benefit United Way and FEED Lake County
The Annual Kirtland High School United Way Volleyball Tournament will be held on Wednesday, March 8 beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Parents, students, and community members are welcome to attend.  Admission is free, however, non-perishable food items and monetary donations will be collected at the door to benefit the FEED Lake County food drive sponsored by United Way.  The KHS United Way Club will be collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations throughout the week of March 6-10.  Please click here for more information about this program.
Kirtland Swimmer Qualifies for the State Meet
Matt Stipkovich of the Kirtland swim team competed in the Northeast Ohio Division II Boys District Swim meet Friday night at Cleveland State. In the 100 backstroke, Matt finished 3rd overall and qualified for the State Championship meet for the second year in a row while lowering his school record in the 100 yard backstroke to 53.04 seconds. Matt also set new school records in the 50 freestyle at 23.3 seconds and the 100 freestyle at 49.7 seconds at the meet.

Preliminaries for the Division II State Championship meet are Thursday at 5:00 pm at CT Brannin Natatorium in Canton with finals on Friday at the same time. Wish Matt good luck when you see him!
KMS Power of the Pen at Chardon Middle School
Congratulations to the KMS Power of the Pen members who competed against 160 other middle school creative writers during the district competition at Chardon Middle School on February 11th. Dea Semaj placed 15th overall at the 8th grade level; Angelina Giacomazza took 13th place, Meara Polanski earned 12th place, and Elin Conner won 3rd place at the 7th grade level. The 7th grade team also secured first place with support from members Ella Kessler, Chloe Latchaw and Kaley Ream. Please be sure to congratulate these writers for a job well done!

Sophomore Class Malley's Fundraiser
Kirtland High School's Sophomore Class is participating in the Malley's Spring and Easter Candy Sale!!  All proceeds will benefit the Class of 2019.  The sale runs from February 1 until April 10, and you can purchase directly from a student or click on the Malley's logo to purchase online. Orders will be delivered in time for Easter!
Senior Project Applications Due March 2
All seniors now have their senior project packets. Parents and guardians should take a few minutes to sit down and read over all of the information with their student(s). Introducing the Key Communicator
As we continue to strive to increase our communication with all our stakeholders. We have developed Kirtland Schools’ new Key Communicator e-newsletter. Click here for a digital copy. We hope to use this tool as a two-way form of communication to share the good news going on in our classrooms and District, and also provide you with facts in the event of negative situations.
NHS Host Kids Night Out
The National Honor Society is hosting its annual Kids Night Out fundraiser on March 3rd. Funds raised support NHS scholarships. Last year we were able to award 2 $1000 scholarships. Any senior with a 3.5 GPA or higher was invited to apply. Click here for registration information.
KHS Students Win Cleveland Clinic eXpressions Awards
Five Kirtland High School students were award winners in language category of Cleveland Clinic eXpressions for their short stories and poems. eXpressions is a progran in which students translate research studies conducted by Cleveland Clinic high school interns by producing artistic, literary and mathematical interpretations of the science. Our students competed against about 1,500 art, language and math projects from 51 schools.

The following KHS students were recognized: Lilly Kelemen (Honorable Mention ), Anna Woolough (Red Ribbon), Nathan LaMantia (Red Ribbon), Isabel Anness (White Ribbon) and Katie McCollister (White Ribbon). Kirtland teachers who supported their students in this effort include Jen Berry, Eric Eye and Meriah Duncan. All five students will have their work displayed as part of the annual eXpressions eXhibition, Feb. 9-March 17, at the Global Center for Health Innovation.

New Vaccines Required for Entering 7th and 12th Grades by ODE (Correction)
The Ohio Department of Education is requiring two additional vaccines this year. Students in grade 7 are required to have a TDAP, and now also meningitis vaccine. Grade 12 students are now required to have a second dose of meningitis vaccine unless their first dose was administered on or after their sixteenth birthday. Heinen’s is “Teaming Up for Education” and will donate 1% of qualifying sales to our schools. If you shop at Heinen’s, please take a moment to sign up for this at www.heinensrewards.com. Even if you are already a preferred customer, you need to note Kirtland Schools as your preferred school on your profile page. You can also do this by stopping at the Customer Service booth in any Heinen’s store. One great feature of the program is that Heinen's is crediting us with a “reach-back” period to last September! So amounts you’ve already spent are eligible! Any Heinen’s shopper may participate, so tell everyone you know to select Kirtland as their school of choice! Please remember to mark your calendar as well, because you have to re-select your school of choice annually.
